Tamahikari Red Sakura Kyusu Teapot
Tamahikari Red Sakura Kyusu Teapot
Low stock
Where Tokoname craftsmanship meets Kutani artistry, this kyusu teapot brings together two distinct traditions in one beautifully balanced form. Made from warm red clay and finished with delicate cherry blossom motifs, it reflects both the quiet functionality of Tokoname ware and the refined colorwork of Kutani painting. The lightly speckled red surface and softly blooming sakura create a design that feels elegant yet approachable, while the size offers an ideal capacity for daily tea brewing.
This piece is part of the Kakosei series, a collaborative work between Tokoname master potter Gyokko Kiln (Hirotaka Umehara) and Kutani overglaze artist Tsugumori Tamura. Hand-shaped in Tokoname using generous amounts of fine shudei red clay, the teapot was designed with a focus on comfort, lightness, and ease of use. From the smooth fit of the lid to the natural feel of the side handle, every detail reflects Gyokko’s commitment to yō no bi—the beauty of utility. Umehara, a second-generation master artisan born in 1946, has received numerous honors for his work, including awards from the Aichi Prefectural Government and Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Brew with a vessel shaped by generations of mastery. Elegant in hand and effortless to use, this kyusu brings together artistry and function in a way that makes each pot of tea feel all the more special.
