Sakura & the Moon Tenugui

Serene and atmospheric, this Sakura and the Moon tenugui captures the quiet beauty of cherry blossoms beneath a glowing night sky. The composition balances softness and contrast, creating a design that feels both poetic and distinctly Japanese.

A tenugui is a traditional Japanese cotton cloth used for daily tasks, gift wrapping, or display. Striking enough to hang as a tapestry, this design is part of a twelve-pattern series created to be enjoyed throughout the year, with a different motif for each month.

Produced in a workshop rooted in Kyoto’s yuzen dyeing tradition, it is colored using traditional hand screen-printing techniques (katazome).

The fabric is crafted from “Tokutoka” cotton—regarded as one of the highest-quality materials for tenugui—valued for its smooth texture and durability. Because it is dyed rather than heavily printed, the natural hand and breathability of the cloth remain beautifully intact.
