Rooted in Kyoto’s historic Muromachi district—an area that thrived as the heart of the kimono trade since the Edo period—these fabrics tell a story of tradition, artistry, and resilience. As everyday kimono wear has waned, countless bolts of exquisite textile, many from the 1970s onward, remained in warehouses, waiting to be reborn. From this vision, the Muromachi Gofukuro Project emerged, transforming forgotten textiles into meaningful, contemporary pieces.

Each tote is fashioned from obi fabric, known for its rich texture, durability, and striking woven designs. Unlike standard kimono cloth, obi textiles emphasize bold patterns, depth of weave, and refined structure—qualities that lend themselves perfectly to a bag meant to be both functional and artful. The result is a one-of-a-kind accessory, full of character and imbued with the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship.
